**Texas Claims No. 1 Spot in US LBM Coaches Poll for First Time Since 2008**
In a thrilling weekend of college football action, the weekly US LBM Coaches Poll revealed significant changes, with Texas ascending to the top position for the first time since October 26, 2008. The Longhorns narrowly edged out Alabama for the No. 1 spot, securing 29 out of 55 first-place votes and finishing just nine points ahead of the Crimson Tide.
Alabama, which received 19 first-place votes, moved up following an exhilarating victory against Georgia, which helped propel them close to the pinnacle of the rankings. Ohio State, benefiting from seven top votes, maintains its position at No. 3 after triumphing in its Big Ten opener against Michigan State. Meanwhile, Tennessee climbed up to No. 4, capitalizing on having the week off, as Georgia dropped to fifth place after losing to Alabama.
The weekend also saw two top-10 teams falling at home, leading to notable shifts in the rankings. Mississippi plummeted six spots to No. 11 after a defeat by Kentucky, and Utah tumbled eight places to No. 18 following a loss to Arizona. These slips allowed Oregon, Penn State, and Miami (Fla.) to each advance one position, now sitting at No. 6, No. 7, and No. 8 respectively. Additionally, Missouri ascended to No. 9, while Michigan made a return to the top 10.
Indiana emerged as the sole newcomer to the top 25, debuting at No. 24 following a commendable 5-0 start. This marks their first appearance in the poll since the preseason rankings of 2021. While Illinois managed to cling to the No. 25 spot despite a defeat at Penn State, Oklahoma State dropped out of the top 25 entirely.
