In a shocking development, Blaise Taylor, an analyst at Texas A&M and son of the school's associate head coach, has been arrested in Utah in connection with the deaths of his girlfriend and her unborn child. The arrest followed an indictment by a Nashville grand jury, charging Taylor with two counts of first-degree murder for the alleged poisoning deaths.
According to the Nashville Police Department, Taylor is accused of poisoning his girlfriend, identified as Benning, without her knowledge during a visit to her apartment on the night of February 25, 2023. Benning was rushed to the hospital that night after Taylor called 911, claiming she was having an allergic reaction. Tragically, her unborn baby passed away two days later, and Benning herself succumbed to the poisoning on March 6.
Authorities have not released any details regarding the alleged poisoning, but months of investigation involving crime laboratories and medical experts ultimately led to Taylor's indictment. Following the deaths, Taylor relocated to Utah, where he was arrested and is currently being held without bail at the Cache County Jail in Logan.
Texas A&M promptly took action upon learning of Taylor's arrest. The university announced on Friday night that he has been placed on suspension pending an investigation. Head football coach Mike Elko expressed sympathy for all those affected by the situation and emphasized the importance of allowing the legal process to unfold with diligence and fairness.
Blaise Taylor, a former college football star at Arkansas State, played as a defensive back from 2014 to 2017. His father, Trooper Taylor, served as a defensive backs coach during his time at Arkansas State and is now an associate head coach on offense and running backs coach at Texas A&M. Trooper Taylor has an extensive coaching history, having worked at Baylor, New Mexico, Tulane, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, and Auburn during its 2010 BCS National Championship run.
Nashville police are currently coordinating with Utah authorities to arrange for Taylor's return to Tennessee. As the investigation unfolds, thoughts and prayers are extended to the victim's family and friends, as well as to Coach Trooper Taylor, Dr. Evelyn Taylor, and their family during this difficult time.
