In a recent development, Tesla has announced a recall for most of its Cybertrucks in the United States due to concerns regarding windshield wipers and exterior trim. This marks the fourth recall issued by Tesla for its 2024 Cybertruck, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recall affects 11,688 Cybertrucks from the 2024 model year, specifically due to a malfunctioning front windshield wiper motor controller caused by excessive electrical current. The failure of the wiper motor controller could potentially increase the risk of accidents during wet weather conditions. This recall encompasses all Cybertrucks built through June 6th.
Tesla has assured customers that it will replace the faulty wiper motor after identifying early failures. The investigation into the issue began in February when 20 wiper motors were recovered for inspection. The company's priority remains the safety and satisfaction of its customers.
Additionally, Tesla is recalling 11,383 Cybertrucks for a separate issue involving the trunk bed trim sail applique. It has been discovered that the applique could have been improperly attached, leading to potential loosening and creating a hazard on the road.
These recalls present yet another setback for the highly-anticipated Cybertruck, which has encountered various challenges during its production and delivery processes. The mass production of the Cybertruck is slated to begin next year, once all the necessary improvements and fixes have been implemented.
Elon Musk's company had previously faced scrutiny over the disclosure of delivery numbers in its quarterly reports, making it difficult to determine the extent of Cybertruck ownership among consumers. However, with these recalls, Tesla is demonstrating its commitment to rectify any issues promptly.
The investigation into these problems began in December when issues were detected in an undelivered Cybertruck. Subsequently, in May, another occurrence was found in a customer vehicle. Upon further investigation, additional instances of loose or detached appliques were discovered, attributed to improper installation of the applique or adhesive.
This latest recall follows Tesla's April recall of approximately 4,000 Cybertrucks to address concerns related to a loose accelerator pedal pad that could become lodged in the interior trim.
Despite the challenges faced, Tesla remains dedicated to delivering a top-notch product to its customers. The company aims to ensure that the Cybertruck lives up to its futuristic concept and stands out as a leader in the automotive industry.
