Titans Acquire Tackle Leroy Watson in Trade with Browns
The Tennessee Titans have made a move to strengthen their offensive line by negotiating a trade with the Cleveland Browns. Pending a physical, the Titans have acquired tackle Leroy Watson from the Browns in exchange for a 2024 seventh-round pick (#227).
Watson, who stands at 6-5 and weighs 311 pounds, had a limited role in the Browns' lineup during the 2023 season, playing in seven games but not making any starts. Despite his limited playing time, the Titans have shown confidence in his abilities and are eager to see him contribute to their team.
The journey to the NFL has been an interesting one for Watson. After going undrafted, he signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent but eventually found himself on the practice squad of the San Francisco 49ers in his rookie season of 2022. It was during his time with the 49ers that he crossed paths with Titans General Manager Ran Carthon, who was working in personnel at that time.
Watson's connection with the Titans doesn't end there. In Cleveland, he was coached by the new Titans offensive line coach, Bill Callahan. This previous working relationship between Callahan and Watson could potentially help make the transition to the Titans smoother for the talented tackle.
Before his NFL career, Watson played college football at Texas San Antonio (UTSA) as a tight end. In his 37 games with the Roadrunners, he recorded 25 receptions for 297 yards and two touchdowns. However, his football journey started at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, where he began his college career.
The Titans are hopeful that Watson's experience and versatility will prove to be valuable assets to their offensive line. With his size and athleticism, they believe he has the potential to make a significant impact on their team.
The trade between the Titans and the Browns is still pending, with the completion of a physical examination being the final requirement. Once the physical is cleared, Leroy Watson will officially become part of the Tennessee Titans and join their pursuit of success in the upcoming season.
