In a recent development, Take-Two Interactive, the renowned company-publisher responsible for the popular Grand Theft Auto series, has announced the closure of two influential game development studios, Roll7 and Intercept Games. These studios were known for creating successful games such as Rollerdrome and Kerbal Space Program 2 respectively. The closure of these studios comes shortly after the company's acquisition of mobile gaming giant Zynga and the recent layoffs within the organization.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, a major gaming publication, Take-Two has not only closed down Roll7 and Intercept Games but has also reportedly shuttered the "vast majority" of teams associated with its indie-publishing arm, Private Division, in Seattle, New York, Las Vegas, and Munich. While Take-Two has not officially confirmed these closures, their statement to IGN regarding the layoffs and the future of Kerbal Space Program 2 alludes to the company's actions.

The closure of Roll7 and Intercept Games has not only affected the studios but also their dedicated teams. Roll7, based in London, is said to be providing severance packages to its employees. The filing of a notice with the Washington State Employment Security Department indicates that Take-Two plans to close the Seattle-based studio, aligning with the 70 employees at Intercept Games.

These recent closures and layoffs follow Take-Two's decision last month to lay off 5% of its workforce, amounting to 579 employees, and the cancellation of several ongoing projects. However, the company also made headlines in March with its acquisition of Gearbox Entertainment, further expanding its portfolio.

The closure of these studios has raised concerns about the future of game development and the gaming community. Game Informer, a reputable gaming publication, has reached out to its readers and urged them to support its coverage by subscribing to its print magazine. With less than two dollars per issue, readers can receive a year's worth of exclusive content, in-depth interviews with game creators, previews, and retrospectives.

Game Informer's online platform also offers a wide range of free content, including game reviews, daily news, videos, and event coverage. The publication relies on a small editorial team and contributors from around the world to provide quality gaming content. In the face of industry struggles and layoffs, Game Informer emphasizes the importance of its subscription service in ensuring the future of its 30+ year legacy and community.

As the gaming industry navigates through these uncertain times, the closure of studios like Roll7 and Intercept Games underscores the challenges faced by game developers and the need for community support.
