David Lim, a long-standing member of the "S.W.A.T." cast, has expressed his frustration over the recent launch of a spinoff series which excludes him and most of his fellow cast members. Lim, who played officer Victor Tan throughout all eight seasons, feels the move is a disservice to the original cast who collectively built the show's reputation.

The journey for "S.W.A.T." has been tumultuous recently. CBS initially canceled the show after six seasons in 2023, only to reverse its decision following a strong backlash from devoted fans, extending it for a seventh season. When Season 7 aired, the network decided to add one more season before finally concluding the series. The finale was broadcast on May 16, and just two days later, Sony Pictures Television announced a new spinoff titled "S.W.A.T. Exiles." As of now, neither CBS nor any other platform has confirmed they will air the new series.

In "S.W.A.T. Exiles," only Shemar Moore, who plays lead character Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson, is confirmed to be part of the cast. This exclusion has been particularly hard for Lim, who shared his thoughts in an emotional Instagram post. He commented on the disappointment of the spinoff announcement occurring so soon after the series finale and without recognizing the contributions of the original cast. Lim stressed that the tight-knit bond among the team was a significant part of the show's success.

His sentiments have found support among several colleagues from the show. Actors Rochelle Aytes, Annie Ilonzeh, and Niko Pepaj, along with writer and co-producer Ryan Keleher and guest stars Emily Alabi and Coby Ryan McLaughlin, have all echoed Lim's feelings in comments and messages of solidarity.

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Television president has suggested that other original cast members might still have a chance to join "S.W.A.T. Exiles." Despite currently being deep into the planning stages, with production slated to begin in August, she hinted that fans could expect some familiar faces to return in some capacity. However, Lim has yet to receive any such call.

The new spinoff will follow Hondo, who is pulled out of retirement to lead a new, experimental SWAT unit composed of young, untested recruits. This squad will navigate generational divides and clashing personalities under Hondo’s leadership, aiming to become a cohesive team capable of protecting their city and preserving the program that defined Hondo's career.

In his heartfelt Instagram post, Lim reflected on the eight-season journey, stressing how the camaraderie and chemistry among cast members made "S.W.A.T." a special experience for everyone involved. He expressed pride in their fight to secure a ninth season, even though it didn't come to fruition, and underscored his pride in the impact the show had on its audience.

Despite the bittersweet end and the rollout of the spinoff, Lim remains grateful for the journey and the support from fans and colleagues. He signed off with a heartfelt message of thanks to the "S.W.A.T." family and its dedicated audience, pledging his pride in their collective achievements.
