**Panthers Struggle with Injuries in 36-10 Loss to Bears**
The injury-plagued Carolina Panthers faced yet another setback on Sunday as they fell 36-10 to the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. The team, already grappling with a string of missing key players, saw their defensive capabilities further diminished when outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney exited in the second quarter with a shoulder injury.
The Panthers were already without defensive captains Derrick Brown and Shaq Thompson due to injury reserves, and inside linebacker Josey Jewell was inactive with hamstring and groin issues. The impact of these absences was glaring as the Bears surged to a 27-7 halftime lead, amassing 289 yards of total offense. This was notably higher than their average of 253.0 yards per game over their first four contests.
With a thin roster, the Panthers needed to execute flawlessly, but they struggled significantly. The team's offense was unable to convert any of their six third-down attempts in the first half, adding further strain to their already depleted defense. The Panthers' woes continued with three costly turnovers and an altercation following a late Bears touchdown, leading to the ejection of Jaycee Horn in the fourth quarter.
As the Bears extended their lead, Panthers’ rookie quarterback Bryce Young took the field and managed to make some promising plays, completing 4-of-7 passes for 58 yards before being sacked on fourth down. Veteran quarterback Andy Dalton, who had shown strong performances against the Raiders and Bengals, had a below-par game completing 18-of-28 passes for 136 yards and one interception.
The Panthers' injury report continued to lengthen as the game progressed. Five starters, including Clowney, exited the game due to injuries. Veteran right tackle Taylor Moton’s run of 103 consecutive starts ended after he left in the second half with an elbow injury; he was replaced by Yosh Nijman. Center Austin Corbett also left in the third quarter with a biceps injury and was replaced by Brady Christensen. Tight end Tommy Tremble was evaluated for a concussion in the first half and did not return, while rookie wide receiver Xavier Legette left with a shoulder injury before halftime. Outside linebacker DJ Johnson, who left in the third quarter, managed to return but found himself penalized during a late-game fight.
Moreover, the wind at Soldier Field complicated kicking for both teams. Bears kicker Cairo Santos missed an extra point late in the second quarter, a rare error in an otherwise perfect half, while Panthers’ kicker Eddy Piñeiro missed a 45-yard attempt just before halftime due to swirling winds that often make flag directions contradictory at either end of the field.
The Panthers were left to contemplate their growing injury list and diminished performance as they look to recover from their tough outing against the Bears.
