### Steelers Eye Jets' Mike Williams as Trade Deadline Approaches
The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly exploring trade options to bolster their receiving corps before the November 5 trade deadline. Having missed out on acquiring receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Davante Adams, the Steelers have now set their sights on New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams.
The Jets' acquisition of Adams, who reunites with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, has overcrowded New York's receiver lineup, making Williams a potential trade candidate. The Steelers, who previously expressed interest in Williams before he joined the Jets, have reached out again, confirmed by The Athletic's Dianna Russini.
ESPN's Bill Barnwell highlighted this potential trade in a recent article, suggesting the Steelers could acquire Williams for a 2025 seventh-round pick. Barnwell mentioned that Williams' position in the Jets' lineup is uncertain due to Adams' arrival and noted Williams' struggles with game-sealing interceptions in back-to-back games. Despite lingering issues from a torn ACL in September 2023, Williams remains a plausible low-cost acquisition, with around $837,000 owed for the remainder of the season.
Jason Fitzgerald from Over The Cap offered a different perspective, noting that any team taking on Williams' contract would need about $4 to $4.5 million. While Barnwell's mock trade seems to underestimate this financial commitment, the Steelers might still find Williams an attractive option given their current need for receiving talent.
Williams' potential move to Pittsburgh offers a more affordable alternative compared to the sizable commitments that would have accompanied trades for Aiyuk or Adams. With the Steelers struggling to get performance from receivers other than George Pickens, securing Williams could fill a critical gap without significant financial risk.
Interestingly, Williams did not participate in practice on Wednesday due to personal reasons, fueling speculation about ongoing trade negotiations. As the trade deadline looms, fans can expect the Steelers to be proactive in seeking reinforcements for their roster.
