### Steelers Eye Dolphins' Pro Bowler Jonnu Smith in Potential Trade Deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly in talks with the Miami Dolphins to acquire tight end Jonnu Smith, as they aim to bolster their offensive lineup. This interest follows the recent trade that sent wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys.

Smith, who was Miami's sole Pro Bowler last season, expressed a desire to renegotiate his current contract, which calls for a $4.8 million salary this year. The tight end is in the final year of a two-year, $8.4 million deal signed in March 2024. His preference remains to stay with the Dolphins under a reworked agreement, but the discussions with Pittsburgh catch attention due to logical fit considerations.

The connection lies in Jonnu Smith’s history with Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. The duo previously collaborated during their time with the Tennessee Titans and the Atlanta Falcons. In 2020, Smith recorded eight touchdowns while with the Titans, a career-high. In the 2023 season with the Falcons, he notched 50 receptions for 582 yards, setting then personal bests.

Joining the Dolphins last season, Jonnu Smith had a standout year. The 29-year-old established franchise records for a tight end, with 88 receptions, 884 yards, and eight touchdowns out of 111 targets. If the Steelers secure this trade, Smith would be a valuable asset in boosting the Steelers' tight end-heavy offensive strategy led by Arthur Smith.

Pittsburgh, which already features starting tight end Pat Freiermuth, has been active this offseason, adding two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf and rookie running back Kaleb Johnson to its ranks. Additionally, the team is in pursuit of quarterback Aaron Rodgers as they wrapped up their first week of OTAs.

The potential acquisition of Jonnu Smith signifies Pittsburgh's commitment to building a robust offensive unit capable of competing at the highest level in the upcoming NFL season.
