Blues Extend Contracts for Ott, Julien, Weber, and Alexander through 2025-26 Season

The St. Louis Blues have made significant moves to solidify their coaching staff, announcing contract extensions for associate coach Steve Ott and assistant coaches Claude Julien, Mike Weber, and goaltending coach David Alexander. These extensions will keep Ott, Julien, Weber, and Alexander with the Blues through the 2025-26 season.

Ott, a former NHL player, will enter his eighth year behind the Blues' bench in the 2024-25 season. Since joining the coaching staff in 2017, Ott has played a crucial role in the team's success. He has helped the Blues compile an impressive regular-season record of 287-192-58, with four postseason appearances. Ott's coaching prowess was most evident in the 2018-19 season when he played a key role in the Blues' historic rise in the standings, culminating in the team capturing the Stanley Cup championship.

Julien, with over 20 years of coaching experience, including 19 seasons as an NHL head coach, brings a wealth of knowledge to the Blues' coaching staff. He started his career as the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens in 2002 before spending time with the New Jersey Devils and the Boston Bruins. Julien's tenure in Boston saw remarkable success, with 419 regular-season wins, 57 playoff wins, and the 2009 Jack Adams Award as the NHL's best coach. Under his leadership, the Bruins made two trips to the Stanley Cup Final and clinched the championship in 2011. Julien returned to Montreal in 2016 and coached the Canadiens for five seasons.

Weber, who joined the Blues' coaching staff in 2023, has quickly made an impact. Prior to joining the team, he served as an assistant coach for the AHL's Rochester Americans, leading them to the Eastern Conference Final in 2023. Weber, a former NHL player himself, accumulated extensive experience during his nine-season career, playing for the Buffalo Sabres and the Washington Capitals. His knowledge of the game and coaching abilities make him a valuable asset to the Blues.

Alexander, the Blues' goaltending coach, has been with the team since 2017. He played a crucial role in the development of Jordan Binnington, who was instrumental in the Blues' Stanley Cup victory in 2019. Alexander also oversees the goaltending coaches within the Blues organization. His previous experience includes working as the goaltending coach for the AHL's Syracuse Crunch, where he helped the team reach the Calder Cup Final in 2017.

With these contract extensions, the Blues have ensured the continuity and stability of their coaching staff over the next several years. The combination of Ott, Julien, Weber, and Alexander brings a diverse set of skills, experience, and expertise to guide the team to success. As the Blues look towards the future, these coaching extensions will undoubtedly play a vital role in their continued pursuit of excellence on the ice.
