**Shohei Ohtani to Play in Game 3 Despite Shoulder Injury**
Los Angeles Dodgers' standout Shohei Ohtani endured a shoulder injury during the team's victory over the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday. Despite the setback, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed Ohtani's presence in the lineup for Game 3 on Monday.
Roberts shared with ESPN that Ohtani is "in a great spot" and will be active for the upcoming game. The Athletic reported that Ohtani will likely continue his role as leadoff designated hitter, as he has consistently played throughout the postseason.
The injury occurred in the seventh inning when Ohtani attempted to steal second base. After being tagged out by Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe, Ohtani favored his left arm and was diagnosed with a subluxation, or partial dislocation, of his left shoulder. Postgame reports indicated that Ohtani still had good strength and range of motion in his shoulder, which was promising news for the Dodgers.
"We're encouraged," Roberts stated after the game, reflecting the team's cautious optimism about Ohtani's injury and recovery.
Ohtani's performance in the first two games of the World Series has seen him go 1 for 8, with a .260 batting average, three home runs, and 10 RBIs during his debut postseason in Major League Baseball. His pivotal hit in Game 1, an eighth-inning double, allowed him to advance to third on a throwing error and score the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Mookie Betts, setting the stage for the Dodgers' eventual extra-inning victory.
Historically, most of Ohtani's injuries since his MLB debut in 2018 have been related to pitching, including significant surgeries on his right elbow in 2018 and 2022. This season, he made history by becoming the first player to record at least 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season, despite not pitching.
The Dodgers, holding a 2-0 series lead, will travel to New York for Game 3 on Monday, bringing with them the hope that Ohtani's injury will not hinder their pursuit of the championship.
