Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is set to make a quick return to action after an injury scare during training camp. Following an MRI on his knee and hip injuries, the results came back inconclusive, providing a sigh of relief for both Smith and the team. According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, Smith's MRI didn't reveal any significant damage, and a source close to the team noted that he is expected to miss no playing time.

Smith had been sidelined for the previous two practices as he underwent imaging tests on Thursday night. The specifics of his injury were not disclosed by head coach Mike Macdonald, but it appears to be related to a knock he received from a defender during Tuesday's practice. Although he showed signs of discomfort immediately after the play, Smith continued to participate without any apparent limitations.

During Wednesday's walkthrough-heavy practice, Smith was absent, with backups Sam Howell and PJ Walker taking charge of the snaps. However, Smith was seen conversing with offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb before Thursday's session, donning his retro blue practice jersey. Despite his presence, the quarterback opted to sit out once again, allowing Howell to take over the first-team reps.

While the exact timeline for Smith's return remains uncertain, the Seahawks are understandably relieved by the favorable results of the MRI. Smith has been performing impressively throughout training camp, showcasing excellent command of Grubb's offensive system. Despite a couple of interceptions by safety Julian Love, Smith has been accurate with his passes, connecting with receivers such as DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba on numerous explosive plays.

With the regular season still over a month away, the Seahawks may choose to exercise caution and give Smith additional time to recover fully. This strategy would also afford Howell the opportunity to gain valuable experience and evaluation with the starting offense. However, considering the lack of significant damage revealed by the scans, Smith's competitive spirit may drive him to accelerate his return, providing a boost of confidence for the team.

The Seattle Seahawks will undoubtedly monitor Smith's progress closely in the coming days, making a decision on when to reintroduce him to the practice field. In the meantime, the team can take solace in the fact that their talented quarterback is not expected to miss any significant playing time and will be back leading their offense sooner rather than later.
