This comes just 16 hours after completing a major deal, making it the second trade for the Mariners this season.
As part of the trade, rookie outfielder Jonatan Clase, 22, will be heading to Toronto. Clase, ranked as the Mariners' No. 13 prospect by Baseball America, had a challenging start to his major-league career, batting .195 with a .453 OPS in 41 at-bats this season.
To complete the deal, the Mariners are also sending minor-league catcher Jacob Sharp to the Blue Jays. The inclusion of Garcia, a 33-year-old right-hander, offers much-needed back-end support to a bullpen that has faced recent struggles.
Garcia is highly regarded as one of the top bullpen arms available and has proven his worth this season with the Blue Jays. In 30 innings, he boasts an impressive 2.70 ERA, along with five saves, 42 strikeouts, and a 0.80 WHIP. It's important to note that Garcia will become a free agent after this season.
This acquisition is a significant move for the Mariners as they aim to solidify their pitching staff for the rest of the season. Adding Garcia to their roster will provide them with an experienced arm that can help bridge the gap in crucial games.
With the addition of Garcia, the Mariners look to make a strong push for a playoff spot and compete in the highly competitive MLB trade season. The details of the trade were not disclosed, and the post will be updated as further information becomes available.
