In the trade, the Seahawks sent Taylor, a 2020 second-round pick, to the Bears in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick. Taylor has been with the Seahawks for the past three seasons, appearing in 49 games with 13 starts. However, his rookie season was marred by a leg injury he sustained during his college career at Tennessee. Despite the setback, Taylor managed to record 91 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, and 21.5 sacks over the last three seasons, including 9.5 sacks in 2022, tying for the team lead with Uchenna Nwosu.
The Seahawks' decision to trade Taylor comes as they have a deep rotation of outside linebackers, including Nwosu, Dre'Mont Jones, Boye Mafe, Derick Hall, and undrafted rookies Nelson Ceaser, Jamie Sheriff, and Sundiata Anderson.
On the other hand, the Seahawks also made a notable signing by bringing back cornerback Willie Roberts. Roberts had been released by the team last weekend but returned to the roster after participating in the team's rookie minicamp as a tryout player. As a standout player from Louisiana Tech, Roberts started all 12 games last season and recorded impressive numbers, including 38 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. He also ranked ninth nationally with 12 passes defensed and held opponents to a low 34.8 percent completion percentage when targeted, according to Pro Football Focus.
This trade and signing are part of a busy few days for the Seahawks, as they made another trade on Thursday, acquiring linebacker Michael Barrett from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for cornerback Michael Jackson.
With the preseason approaching, the Seahawks are shaping their roster for the upcoming season, hoping these moves will contribute to their success on the field.
