### Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis Recall Over 240,000 Vehicles Due to Safety Concerns
In a significant safety recall, over 240,000 vehicles from Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia are being pulled off roads in the United States and Canada. The recall is in response to several issues, including potential faulty wiring and damaged electric vehicle (EV) charging units, according to recent announcements by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Of particular concern are certain electrical vehicles where damaged charging units could result in a loss of drive power, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. This recall impacts a substantial number of vehicles, with 62,872 units from Kia and 145,235 units from Hyundai and Genesis being flagged. The majority of the recalled Hyundai and Genesis units were produced for the U.S. market, along with approximately 34,529 units intended for Canada.
The recall specifically involves models such as the 2022-2024 Kia EV6, 2023-2024 Genesis G80 EV, 2023-2025 Genesis GV60, 2023-2025 Genesis GV70 EV, 2022-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5, and 2023-2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6. In an advisory, Kia America has urged drivers to heed warning chimes and warning lights, and to tow affected vehicles to the nearest dealership immediately. Ignoring these warnings could lead to a complete loss of power while driving, dramatically raising the likelihood of a crash.
In another notice, NHTSA highlighted that certain 2025 models of Hyundai Tucson and Hyundai Santa Cruz could experience a transmission issue where the vehicles might shift out of park without the brake pedal being engaged. This flaw could cause the vehicles to roll away unexpectedly, leading to severe accidents. More than 42,000 units are potentially affected by this specific problem.
Vehicle owners are anticipated to receive formal notification letters about these recalls in December and January. In the meantime, NHTSA advises owners of the affected Hyundai Tucson and Santa Cruz models to continue driving their vehicles cautiously and always engage the parking brake as a precaution.
