In a recent post-fight interview, Ryan Garcia shared his disappointment with referee Harvey Dock's actions during his majority decision win over Devin Haney. While Garcia was pleased with the victory, he believes that a knockout finish would have been much sweeter. The young boxer set the tone early in the match, delivering a powerful left hook that rattled Haney. However, Garcia's frustration stems from a point deduction by Dock in the seventh round.
Garcia believes that he should have been allowed to continue attacking Haney and potentially secure a knockout victory. He expressed his thoughts on Dock, stating, "At the end of the day, Harvey Dock, I think he was tripping. He should have stopped that fight. It was bad. [Haney] was really hurt. I felt bad."
The point deduction came after Garcia landed a punch while Haney was holding him. Despite the setback, Garcia's relentless assault led to two more knockdowns in the 10th and 11th rounds, securing him the win. However, looking back on the fight, Garcia feels that he could have performed even better if he hadn't put immense pressure on himself to finish Haney.
Acknowledging that his body went through significant challenges to reach the 140-pound weight class, Garcia revealed that he missed weight by 3.2 pounds. Despite his victory, he has decided to move up in weight class to 147 pounds and expressed doubts that Haney or Gervonta Davis, who handed Garcia his only loss when he went down to 136 pounds, would pursue rematches with him.
Garcia even mentioned a potential future opponent, Sebastian Fundura, at 154 pounds. Although he admitted it was a random thought, Garcia believes he has the power to knock Fundura out and win the title in that weight division. He emphasized that he has successfully sparred against opponents of similar size and knocked them out cold.
While nothing has been set in stone regarding his next opponent, Garcia is determined to make a name for himself in the higher weight class. With his impressive performance against Haney, the young boxer continues to prove himself in the ring.
In the aftermath of his recent victory and plans for the future, fans eagerly await Garcia's next move as he continues to establish his place in the world of professional boxing.
