In a significant breakthrough, Russia's top security agency, the Federal Security Service (FSB), announced on Monday that it had successfully dismantled a "terrorist cell" operating in southern Russia. The cell members had allegedly provided weapons and financial support to the suspected attackers of the Moscow concert hall.

According to the FSB, four individuals believed to be part of the cell were apprehended on Sunday in the province of Dagestan, located in the North Caucasus region. The agency claims that these suspects played a direct role in facilitating the deadly attack on the Crocus City Hall in Moscow on March 22, which resulted in the tragic loss of 144 lives and marked the deadliest terrorist incident on Russian soil in 20 years.

Highlighting the nature of their alleged involvement, the FSB disclosed that the detained militants were instrumental in financing the perpetrators of the attack while also supplying them with weapons. One of the suspects from Dagestan even confessed to personally delivering firearms to the assailants in Moscow.

A video released by the FSB showed one of the detainees acknowledging their plans to carry out another attack in the city of Kaspiysk, also situated in Dagestan. However, it remains unclear whether both confessions stem from the same individual.

Interestingly, the FSB noted that the suspects are foreign nationals but did not specify their nationality. The individuals arrested following the Moscow concert hall attack were identified as citizens of Tajikistan, a Central Asian nation.

These latest arrests in Dagestan come on the heels of the capture of four suspected gunmen and seven others implicated in the concert hall attack. The Islamic State group's affiliate claimed responsibility for the assault.

In a separate development, a suspected accomplice of the attackers, named Yakubjoni Yusufzoda, was sentenced by a Moscow court to two months in pretrial detention. Yusufzoda, a citizen of Tajikistan, allegedly provided monetary assistance to the gunmen for accommodation purposes. Initially apprehended for failing to comply with police instructions, he now faces charges of terrorism resulting in fatalities. Yusufzoda becomes the tenth individual to be charged in connection with the case.

While acknowledging that "radical Islamists" were behind the raid on the concert hall, Russian President Vladimir Putin made unsubstantiated allegations implicating Ukraine and the West in the incident, despite vehement denials from Kyiv.

The actions of Russia's FSB, along with the ongoing investigations and subsequent arrests, demonstrate the country's commitment to combating terrorism and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
