Russia's military aviation has suffered more setbacks in its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with another military aircraft crash and a fire at the Sukhoi fighter jet plant in Moscow. The wreckage of a Sukhoi Su-34 jet was reportedly found in Ukraine's Kherson region, with eyewitnesses stating that the plane went down after launching missiles at Ukrainian cities on Friday night.
In a separate incident, warehouses belonging to Sukhoi in Moscow's Begovoy district caught fire. This comes after Ukraine's defense forces claimed to have downed a Russian A-50U long-range radar detection aircraft near the Sea of Azov using a Soviet S-200 anti-aircraft system. Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk celebrated the downing of the A-50, stating that it has flown its last flight.
According to military sources, the A-50 was shot down on Russian territory between Rostov-on-Don and the Krasnodar region by Ukrainian air force and intelligence directorate. The Russian military has not officially commented on the incident.
Lieutenant General Oleshchuk also claimed that Ukrainian forces destroyed a Su-34 fighter bomber, marking the seventh Russian plane reportedly taken down by Ukraine within a week. According to Ukraine's Defense Ministry, Russian losses have reached 340 jets since the start of the war, with Moscow allegedly striking 103 settlements and 79 infrastructure facilities in 10 regions between Friday and Saturday.
