Running back Rashaad Penny, a former first-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2018, unexpectedly announced his retirement on Tuesday morning. The decision to place Penny on the reserve/retired list came as a surprise, especially after Penny expressed excitement about playing under new Panthers head coach Dave Canales, who previously coached him in Seattle. Despite Penny's confidence in his abilities as one of the best running backs in the NFL when healthy, he has struggled with injuries throughout his career, participating in just 45 games with 11 starts. In light of Penny's retirement, the Carolina Panthers have signed undrafted rookie wide receiver Tayvion Robinson to fill the void on their training camp roster.
