Remembering John Ashton: Acclaimed Actor from "Beverly Hills Cop" Passes at 76

Born on February 22, 1948, in Springfield, Massachusetts, John Ashton grew up in Enfield, Connecticut. He pursued higher education at the University of Southern California, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree.
Ashton gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Det. Sgt. John Taggart in the initial two movies of the "Beverly Hills Cop" series, sharing the screen with Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold. His memorable performance left a lasting impact, leading him to reprise his role in the 2024 film "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F."
On the small screen, Ashton was a familiar face as well, playing Willie Joe Garr in several episodes of the iconic show "Dallas." He also made notable appearances in series such as "Columbo," "Police Squad!," and "Hardball," showcasing his versatility as an actor.
John Ashton is survived by his wife, Robin Hoye, his three children, three step-children, and a grandson. He leaves behind two sisters and a brother, creating a legacy both on and off the screen. In his memory, the family requests that donations be made to Pathways Hospice Care.
