Renowned Mountaineer and Filmmaker, David Breashears, Passes Away at 68
Marblehead, Massachusetts - David Breashears, a celebrated mountaineer, author, and filmmaker, known for his co-direction and co-production of a 1998 IMAX documentary about climbing Mount Everest, has died at the age of 68, his business manager confirmed on Saturday. Breashears was discovered unresponsive at his residence in Marblehead on Thursday, according to Ellen Golbranson. While the exact cause of death has yet to be determined, it was stated that Breashears died of natural causes.
Breashears, a passionate climber and photographer, successfully summited Mount Everest on five different occasions, including a groundbreaking expedition in 1996, during which he carried an IMAX camera to capture the breathtaking scenery. His family expressed their admiration for his impressive accomplishments, stating that he became one of the world's most respected adventure filmmakers by combining his love for climbing and photography.
In 2007, Breashears founded GlacierWorks, a nonprofit organization that focuses on raising awareness about the impact of climate change on Himalayan glaciers through art, science, and adventure. His family recognized his dedication and expertise, emphasizing that he utilized his vast climbing experience and photography skills to produce remarkable documentation of the dramatic effects of climate change on the historic mountain range.

Furthermore, in 1985, Breashears became the first U.S. citizen to conquer the summit twice. Renowned for his talent and exploration, Breashears and his team were in the midst of filming the Everest documentary in 1996 when a devastating blizzard struck the mountain, resulting in the loss of eight lives. However, instead of continuing the filming, Breashears and his team prioritized saving the stranded climbers, showcasing his selflessness and dedication to helping others.
