The Boston Red Sox made a significant decision over the weekend as they placed Rafael Devers on the injured list due to left shoulder inflammation. This unfortunate news means that Devers will miss the remainder of the regular season, having played in 138 games for the team this year. Despite dealing with shoulder issues throughout the campaign, Devers displayed an impressive performance at the plate, boasting a slash line of .272/.354/.516 with 28 home runs and 83 RBI.

The 27-year-old's struggles intensified during the final month of the season, especially after sustaining an injury while diving for a ball against the Colorado Rockies shortly after the All-Star break. Red Sox manager Alex Cora expressed his disappointment over Devers' season-ending injury, emphasizing the significant impact the player had on the team's offensive lineup. Cora praised Devers for being one of the best hitters in the league for a substantial period, acknowledging his improvements both in batting and defensively throughout the season.

In response to Devers being placed on the injured list, the Red Sox recalled catcher/infielder Mickey Gasper from Triple-A Worcester to fill the vacant roster spot. Gasper, 28, had previously appeared in 10 games for Boston this season, although he is yet to record a hit at the major league level. Devers, on the other hand, concluded his season with a .205/.295/.329 line in his last 42 games, underscoring the challenges he faced due to his lingering shoulder issues.
