In an unexpected turn of events, the Boston Red Sox find themselves in the playoff hunt despite a series of injuries to key players. As the July 30 trade deadline approaches, Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen believes it is clear what the team needs to bolster their roster for the back end of the season.

Speaking on the "Baseball Isn't Boring" podcast with Rob Bradford, Jansen emphasized the team's need for a right-handed bat and one or two starting pitchers. With a fierce determination to compete against any opponent, Jansen believes these additions are essential for the Red Sox's playoff aspirations.

The search for potential solutions has already begun, with the Los Angeles Angels' Luis Rengifo identified as a potential target by The Athletic MLB insider Ken Rosenthal. Rengifo, a versatile middle infielder, is particularly appealing to the Red Sox as he is not on an expiring contract, providing long-term value.

ESPN's David Schoenfeld, on the other hand, suggests that the Red Sox could benefit from adding Toronto Blue Jays southpaw Yusei Kikuchi to their starting rotation. Kikuchi's presence could offer a much-needed pitching boost and solidify the team's chances in the crucial games ahead.

While the Red Sox have yet to finalize their plans, team president Sam Kennedy made it clear that the organization is determined to make strategic moves to strengthen the roster. Kennedy emphasized that if the right deal(s) come along, the Red Sox will not hesitate to make the necessary acquisitions.

As the trade deadline approaches, the Red Sox find themselves in a unique position. Despite facing adversity with injuries, the team remains resilient and determined to compete for a playoff spot. With the right additions in place, Boston could make a significant push in the second half of the season.

Only time will tell if the Red Sox will pursue Rengifo, Kikuchi, or other potential targets to address their needs. One thing is certain, however: the Red Sox are committed to taking bold steps to enhance their chances of success in the playoffs.
