In its seventh season, the RB Index is back to predict the top 10 leading rushers for the 2024 NFL campaign. With a track record of accuracy, these projections are bound to provide valuable insights into the upcoming season. While the weekly rankings of the top 15 running backs will begin next week, let's take a look at the early predictions.

Leading the list is Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers. As the reigning Offensive Player of the Year, McCaffrey's exceptional performance last season, with a career-high of 1,459 rushing yards, puts him at the top. His versatility and ability to consistently contribute to the 49ers' offense make him a formidable force.

Coming in at the second spot is Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens. Accompanied by quarterback Lamar Jackson, Henry's physicality and strength complement Jackson's speed, making them a dynamic duo. Constantly facing stacked boxes throughout his career, Henry is eager to thrive alongside a quarterback who demands significant attention from defenses.

The New York Jets' running back, Tyron Hall, garners the third position on the list. Despite a less efficient season last year, mainly due to his return from an ACL injury and a challenging quarterback situation, Hall is now healthy and ready to make an impact. With an improved offensive line, Hall is expected to excel both in the running game and as a receiving asset for the Jets.

Cam Akers of the Los Angeles Rams secures the fourth place. After a breakout season, rushing for 1,144 yards on 228 attempts, Akers is poised to continue his impressive production. As the featured back in Sean McVay's offense, Akers' balance and skill set make him a valuable asset.

Saquon Barkley, joining the Philadelphia Eagles, claims the fifth spot. With Jalen Hurts at quarterback, the Eagles' rushing attack has been consistently strong since 2021. Barkley's talent, combined with numerous opportunities, is expected to yield a significant impact. A career-high in rushing yards is well within reach if Barkley can capitalize on his touches.

Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts lands at the sixth position. Despite missing significant playing time due to injury over the last two seasons, Taylor aims to recapture his dominant form. If the Colts rely on Taylor in the run game to support quarterback Anthony Richardson, his numbers could reach the heights witnessed in 2021 when he led the league in rushing.

Raheem Mostert of the Miami Dolphins secures the seventh spot. Despite sharing the backfield with multiple other talented runners, Mostert's lightning-fast speed allows him to make explosive plays. Quality over quantity is the key for Mostert, who has amassed an impressive 5.2 yards per carry throughout his career.

The Detroit Lions' running back duo, David Montgomery and Gibbs, claims the eighth spot on the list. With Montgomery providing the power and Gibbs bringing the speed, this combination poses a threat to opposing defenses. Gibbs' potential to rack up substantial yardage while carrying the ball is expected to contribute significantly.

At number nine is Josh Jacobs of the Green Bay Packers. After a disappointing season last year, marred by injury, Jacobs now finds himself in Green Bay with the opportunity for a revival. With AJ Dillon out for the season, Jacobs is well-positioned to assist the Packers in controlling the clock and supporting quarterback Jordan Love.

Finally, Joe Mixon of the Houston Texans rounds out the list at number ten. Despite his recent ranking as the 21st running back, Mixon's consistent production throughout his career makes him a valuable asset. With the Texans' focus leaning towards the passing game led by C.J. Stroud, Mixon's presence in the backfield is expected to elevate their rushing attack.

As the 2024 NFL season kicks off, these top 10 rushers are primed for success. While only time will reveal the accuracy of the RB Index's predictions, football fans are eager to witness the running game dominance these players bring to the field.
