In a recent development surrounding the six-vehicle accident that occurred in northeast Dallas last weekend, Kansas City Chiefs' wide receiver, Rashee Rice, has met with Dallas police and has taken "full responsibility" for his involvement in the crash.
Rice's meeting with the authorities marks the first time he has engaged with the police since being linked to the incident. In a signed statement provided to The Dallas Morning News, Rice expressed his sincere apologies to all the individuals impacted by the accident and assured his continued cooperation with the investigation.
The crash, which occurred on Saturday at approximately 6:20 p.m. in the 6600 block of North Central Expressway, resulted in multiple injuries and substantial damage to several vehicles. However, it remains unclear if any charges have been filed in relation to the incident.
Since the news broke, Rice has remained relatively silent in the public domain. However, his attorney, State Sen. Royce West, stated on Monday that Rice's thoughts were with everyone affected and that he would conscientiously fulfill his responsibilities to address the situation.
Following West's statement, the Dallas police confirmed that they had been in contact with legal representatives regarding Rice's involvement but had not yet conducted any interviews with potentially involved individuals. The department was unreachable for immediate comment on the matter.
According to police spokesperson Kristin Lowman, the incident was suspected to be caused by two drivers, one in a Chevrolet Corvette and the other in a Lamborghini, both speeding in the far left lane near University Boulevard. They lost control, with the Lamborghini crashing into the center median wall, triggering a chain reaction collision involving four other vehicles.
Footage obtained by The Dallas Morning News shows the Lamborghini and Corvette attempting to overtake other cars in the left lane before colliding with a white sedan and multiple other vehicles across various lanes of traffic. Shockingly, the occupants of both the Lamborghini and Corvette fled the crash site on foot without stopping to offer medical assistance or provide any information about themselves.
The exact extent of Rashee Rice's involvement in the crash remains ambiguous. However, he has been linked to both vehicles, the Lamborghini Urus and a Chevrolet Corvette, which are registered or leased under his name.
A police call sheet obtained by The Dallas Morning News mentioned law enforcement's search for Rice, specifically listing him as the suspected driver of the Corvette. It is unclear whether the police have conclusively identified the drivers of the vehicles involved, as the investigation is still ongoing.
Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact Dallas police Detective Kenneth Watson at kenneth.watson@dallaspolice.gov. As the investigation progresses, further updates are expected in due course.
