The Texas Rangers are gearing up to call up one of their top prospects, Justin Foscue, to help fill the gap left by injured third baseman Josh Jung. According to a source, Foscue, who is ranked as the club's No. 5 prospect by MLB Pipeline, will be promoted from Triple-A Round Rock ahead of Tuesday night's game against the Rays. Although the club has yet to confirm the news, Foscue's arrival is highly anticipated.

At 25 years old, Foscue has showcased his talents as an above-average hitter, capable of playing first, second, and third base. He was selected in the first round of the 2020 Draft and spent the entirety of last season with Round Rock, where he impressed with a .266 batting average, along with a .394 on-base percentage and a .468 slugging percentage. Foscue also displayed both power and discipline at the plate, hitting 18 home runs and accumulating more walks (85) than strikeouts (70) in 122 games.

Rangers offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker commended Foscue's ability to exhibit a crucial skill at the Major League level: a high walk-to-strikeout ratio. Ecker emphasized Foscue's hitting IQ, praising his ability to develop strategies and adjust his game plan accordingly.

With Jung sidelined due to a fractured right wrist sustained in Monday night's win against the Rays, the Rangers will turn to Ezequiel Duran and Josh Smith to cover the third base position alongside Foscue. Both Duran and Smith filled in admirably for Jung last season when he missed six weeks with a fractured thumb.

While primarily a second baseman by trade, Foscue showed his versatility during his time with Round Rock in 2023, appearing in different infield positions, including second base (70 games), third base (35 games), designated hitter (nine games), and first base (nine games). Given Duran's ability to play all four infield positions, it is more likely that Foscue will become part of a first-base platoon, while Duran shifts to the opposite side of the field with Smith taking on third base duties.

The Rangers will rely on Foscue's offensive prowess and solid defensive capabilities to fortify their infield lineup in the absence of Jung. As Foscue prepares to make his long-awaited Major League debut, fans and the team alike anticipate his impact on the field.
