This transition allows Jones the flexibility to sign with any team in the league.
Following his release, any organization that claimed Jones off waivers would have been required to take on his $11.83 million salary for the remainder of the year and an additional $23 million in injury guarantees. As no team opted to make that move, the financial responsibility now falls to the New York Giants.
Reports suggest that up to ten teams have already approached Jones, with discussions indicating that his optimal move could be joining a contender's practice squad. This strategic choice would provide him with the opportunity to advance to an active roster should a starting quarterback sustain an injury.
Among the interested parties are the Ravens and the Vikings, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. At 27, Jones has accumulated significant experience since being a first-round pick by the Giants in 2019, holding a record of 24-44-1, along with 70 touchdowns, 47 interceptions, and 15 rushing touchdowns.
As the free agency period progresses, it remains to be seen which team Jones will join, offering him a fresh start and potentially a return to the field in a new uniform.
