In a rare health update, Princess Kate, the Princess of Wales, revealed on Friday that she is currently undergoing chemotherapy for an undisclosed form of cancer. She shared that she still has "a few more months" of treatment ahead but reassured everyone that she is making "good progress."
Since her diagnosis earlier this year, Princess Kate has remained out of the public eye as she focuses on her chemotherapy treatment, which she described as "preventative" back in March. Her office had previously announced that she would not resume her public duties until given clearance from her medical team.
In a statement posted on social media, Princess Kate announced her first formal step back into public life. She shared that she would be attending a large military parade on Saturday alongside her family to celebrate King Charles III's birthday. This will mark her first formal public appearance since her hospitalization for abdominal surgery in January, where her cancer was detected.
Princess Kate acknowledged in her statement that she is "not out of the woods yet" but expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support and encouragement she has received over the past few months. She emphasized that the kind messages had made a significant difference to both her and Prince William during the challenging times.
Accompanying her statement, Kensington Palace released a new photo of Princess Kate taken earlier in the week at the royal family's Windsor estate, located west of London. The photo showcases her strength and resilience as she continues her battle against cancer.
The princess further explained the ups and downs of her chemotherapy treatment, acknowledging that there are good days and bad days. On the bad days, she feels weak and fatigued and needs to prioritize rest. However, on the good days, when she feels stronger, she aims to seize the opportunity to make the most of her improved well-being.
While Princess Kate has been working from home, it is understood that she will gradually take on more responsibilities on the days when she feels well enough to do so. Her absence was notable at the recent Colonel's Review, a dress rehearsal for the annual Trooping the Colour parade that celebrates the British monarch's official birthday. Princess Kate, who is the honorary colonel of the Irish Guards, sent her apologies in a letter shared on social media, expressing her hope to represent the regiment once again soon.
This announcement comes in parallel with King Charles III's own battle with an unspecified form of cancer, for which he too has been receiving treatment. As he eases back into his public duties, King Charles III has confirmed his attendance at the Trooping of the Colour parade, opting to ride in a carriage instead of on horseback.
Princess Kate's upcoming appearance at the military parade alongside her family signifies her determination to overcome her health challenges and resume her royal duties. As the princess continues her courageous fight against cancer, her strength and resilience serve as an inspiration to many.
