According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Russia is gearing up for a new offensive against Ukraine set to begin in late May or summer. Zelenskiy emphasized the importance of Kyiv and its Western allies standing united to combat the potential threat. The President disclosed that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since February 2022, marking the first official tally in over a year.

Zelenskiy mentioned that troop rotations and the preparedness of reserve forces are crucial for the war effort. Despite differing reports, Zelenskiy stated that Ukrainian casualties stood at 31,000 whereas U.S. officials previously suggested a higher number. In a significant move, Zelenskiy initiated a major military shake-up, replacing the armed forces chief as part of a strategic military plan.

The President remains confident in the support of the U.S. Congress for additional military and financial aid, underscoring Ukraine's dependency on Western assistance for the ongoing conflict. Amid mounting tensions, Russia recently captured the town of Avdiivka, prompting President Vladimir Putin to hint at further advancements into Ukrainian territory.

In an effort to maintain diplomatic initiatives, Kyiv aims to hold a summit in Switzerland this spring to outline its vision for peace with allies and present a peace blueprint to Russia. Additionally, a conference hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron is set to convene European leaders and ministers to enhance cooperation in support of Ukraine as the conflict with Russia enters its third year.

Zelenskiy conveyed that Ukraine will be strategizing a counteroffensive plan against potential Russian aggression, although specific details remain undisclosed to prevent compromising the operation. With tensions escalating, Zelenskiy underscores the critical role of continued Western support in Ukraine's quest for victory over Russia's military advancements.
