The Holy See Press Office announced that Pope Francis has canceled his engagements on Saturday morning as a precautionary measure due to a mild, flu-like condition. The decision to cancel was made following the Pontiff's participation in the Lenten Spiritual Exercises last week. During this period of prayer and recollection, the Pontiff emphasized the importance of a personal experience of the annual spiritual exercises for himself and his collaborators in the Roman Curia. All of the Pope's engagements were suspended last week, including the Wednesday general audience. Following a brief hiatus from his duties, papal appointments were scheduled to resume today.
