In a series of roster moves, the Pittsburgh Pirates have activated right-handed starting pitcher Quinn Priester from the 15-day injured list. This comes as the Pirates also optioned outfielder Edward Olivares to Triple-A Indianapolis and left-hander Justin Bruihl accepted an outright assignment to Indianapolis.

Priester, 23, had been sidelined since June 2 due to a right lat injury. However, he showcased promising form during his rehab stint at Triple-A, recording a 1-0 record with a 3.00 ERA in two starts. As the Pirates' first-round draft pick in 2019 (No. 18 overall), Priester made his major league debut last year, making 10 appearances, eight of which were starts.

Unfortunately, Priester's 2024 season has been challenging, as he started with a 0-5 record and a 4.83 ERA in six starts. With a career spanning 16 games, 14 of them starts, the young pitcher holds a record of 3-8 with a 6.61 ERA. Throughout his career, Priester has struck out 56 batters and walked 37 over 81 2/3 innings.

Meanwhile, outfielder Edward Olivares, 28, has been sent down to Triple-A Indianapolis. In his first season with the Pirates, Olivares had a batting average of .224 with five home runs and 23 RBIs in 55 games. With previous experience playing for the San Diego Padres and Kansas City Royals, Olivares holds a career batting average of .254, hitting 29 homers and gathering 96 RBIs in 285 games.

Lastly, Justin Bruihl, 27, who joined the Pirates this year, has accepted an outright assignment to Indianapolis. Bruihl had a challenging start to the 2024 season, allowing six earned runs in 5 2/3 innings across seven appearances, resulting in a 9.53 ERA. Prior to his time with the Pirates, Bruihl had stints with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will be hoping for a strong return from Quinn Priester as he rejoins the team's pitching rotation. With his potential and past accomplishments, they have high expectations for his contribution to the team's success in future games.
