The police in Philadelphia have made significant progress in the investigation into the shooting of eight high school students at a bus stop. According to a law enforcement official, both the driver and the suspected gunman are now in custody. The official also revealed that two juveniles who were seen fleeing the scene with the shooter have yet to be located.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, marks the fourth shooting in as many days on the city's public transit system. The targeted bus stop was outside Northeast High School, where students were waiting to board the bus home. In response to the escalating violence, a nearby elementary school took precautions by keeping their students indoors and initiating a lockdown during dismissal.

The 18-year-old suspected shooter was apprehended on Saturday, while the driver was captured earlier. Authorities have recovered the blue Hyundai Sonata, believed to be the getaway vehicle, on Wednesday evening following the shooting.

Police reviewed surveillance footage, which showed three masked suspects approaching the bus stop and opening fire on the students at around 3 p.m. The victims, aged 15 to 17, suffered various injuries. Of the wounded, a 16-year-old was struck nine times, leaving them in critical condition. Northeast High School, with over 3,000 students, is located more than a mile away from the crime scene.

Law enforcement officials are currently exploring the possibility that this shooting may be connected to a previous incident. Just days before, another shooting took place when assailants fired 40 shots at close range as people boarded a city bus, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old charter school student and the injury of four others in the Ogontz section of the city. Two additional fatal shootings occurred on buses last week, with one stemming from an argument and the other from a confrontation immediately after disembarking at an Oxford Circle area bus stop.

Local and federal officials are slated to share further details at a news conference scheduled for later Monday afternoon. The police are still actively in pursuit of the two juvenile suspects who remain on the run. Residents and authorities alike are hoping for quick apprehension and a curbing of the recent wave of violence plaguing the city's public transportation system.
