A dog food company located in Fleetwood, Berks County, Pennsylvania, has initiated a nationwide recall of several of its products after tests revealed contamination with salmonella and listeria. ANSWERS Pet Food has proactively decided to remove these potentially harmful products from store shelves, as reported by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The affected products include the 4 lb. Detailed Beef Formula for Dogs (Half Gallon Carton), 4 lb. Pet Food Straight Beef Formula for Dogs (Half Gallon Carton), and 4 lb. Pet Food Straight Chicken Formula for Dogs (Half Gallon Carton). This action has been described as a precautionary measure after the FDA found positive samples of the harmful bacteria.

While no illnesses linked to these specific lots of pet food have been reported to date, both pets and humans who come into contact with the contaminated food may be at risk. The FDA strongly advises against handling these products if contamination is suspected. The specific symptoms to watch out for in both humans and dogs include diarrhea and vomiting.

Certain groups, such as young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems, are particularly vulnerable to these bacteria. Although listeria and salmonella can cause significant illness, salmonella infections are generally less likely to have severe outcomes.

Anyone who owns these recalled products and wishes to obtain a refund should submit a receipt and pictures of the product to info@answerspetfood.com, along with the retailer's information. For further inquiries, ANSWERS Pet Food can be contacted via the same email address.
