In anticipation of the highly anticipated Android Find My Device network launch, Pebblebee and Chipolo announced their respective trackers designed for the network. However, shortly before shipping their products, Pebblebee silently increased the prices of its trackers.
Pebblebee's lineup for the Android Find My Device network consists of three trackers: Tag, Card, and Clip. While all three trackers serve the same purpose, they differ in design and features. The compact rectangular Tag boasts an eight-month battery life and includes a built-in LED. The Card, resembling the size of a credit card, can be recharged and lasts up to 18 months on a single charge. The Clip, the smallest of the three with a circular design, offers a 12-month battery life and features a convenient key ring loop.
Initially, all three trackers were priced at $29.99. However, on April 8, Pebblebee quietly raised the prices of the Tag and Card as Google announced the rollout of the Find My Device network. The new price for these trackers is $34.99, reflecting a $5 increase from the previous pricing. On the other hand, the price for the Clip remains unchanged at $29.99.
Interestingly, the price adjustment occurred within the 24 hours leading up to Google's announcement. Pebblebee confirmed the price change and assured customers who had pre-ordered the Tag and Card over the past few months that they would not be subject to the new pricing. The revised price only applies to new purchases made from today onwards.
Comparatively, Chipolo, another brand offering a tracker compatible with Google's network, sells its version of Pebblebee's Clip, called "One Point," for $28. Chipolo's "One Card" is priced at $35. Both Pebblebee and Chipolo offer discounts for customers purchasing multiple trackers simultaneously.
Pebblebee aims to start shipping its trackers in late May, allowing Android users to take advantage of the Find My Device network's capabilities. With this network, customers will have greater ease in locating their smartphones and other belongings using these trackers.
As the launch date approaches, Pebblebee's decision to quietly raise prices adds a new dimension to the anticipation surrounding the Android Find My Device network's arrival.
