In a new mock draft for 2025, ESPN analyst Jordan Reid predicts that the New England Patriots will look to fortify their offensive line by selecting a top-tier left tackle prospect. Despite having just completed their 2024 draft, the Patriots are already planning ahead to ensure the long-term protection of their young quarterback, Drake Maye.
Reid's mock draft places the Patriots in the third overall position, the same spot they used to select Maye in the 2024 draft. With Maye set to take the reins as the franchise's quarterback, the front office is now focused on securing a blind-side protector for him.
According to Reid, the Patriots' starting left tackle for the upcoming season is likely to be Chukwuma Okorafor, who is currently signed to a one-year deal. This means that New England is in search of a long-term solution to safeguard Maye's blind side, and Reid believes that they will find it in the 2025 draft.
Reid's top choice for the Patriots' left tackle position is college standout Campbell. Having played a total of 1,625 snaps exclusively at left tackle during his time at LSU, Campbell has demonstrated his proficiency in pass protection by not allowing any sacks last season. Known for his poise, foot quickness, and ability to mirror and match defenders, Campbell presents an enticing prospect for the Patriots.
With the selection of Campbell, the Patriots would not only address an immediate need but also invest in the long-term success of their offense. Providing reliable protection for the quarterback's blind side is crucial in ensuring the success of any team's passing game, and the Patriots are evidently determined to bolster their offensive line to maximize Maye's potential.
It remains to be seen whether Reid's projections for the 2025 draft will come to fruition, but with the Patriots showing a proclivity for planning ahead, it's clear that they are already focused on building a solid foundation for the future.
