In a pivotal move, Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh offered the resignation of the government on Monday, citing significant political, security, and economic developments following the recent conflict in Gaza and escalating violence in the West Bank and Jerusalem. The resignation comes amidst efforts by the United States and several Arab countries to bolster the authority's legitimacy and effectiveness, with a vision for an empowered prime minister role and a government of technocrats.

Discussions are ongoing in Doha to secure a deal for the release of more than 100 remaining Israeli hostages in exchange for a cease-fire. However, there is skepticism about the progress of these talks, with concerns that failure to secure a truce in Gaza could lead to a wider regional conflict involving Hezbollah in Lebanon.

In response to recent hostilities, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has stated that more strikes are planned against Hezbollah, particularly if a temporary pause is reached in Gaza. Israeli jets carried out strikes in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley in retaliation for the downing of an Israeli drone by Hezbollah, resulting in the death of two Hezbollah members.

As tensions continue to escalate in the region, there is a diplomatic effort to avert full-scale war between Israel and Lebanon, while Washington remains actively involved, carrying out airstrikes in Iraq and Syria that targeted dozens of Iranian-linked militants in retaliation for an attack in Jordan that claimed the lives of three U.S. service members.
