Actor Austin North, known for his role as Topper Thornton in the series "Outer Banks," is facing allegations of attacking nurses and a phlebotomist at a Las Vegas hospital. The incident reportedly took place at University Medical Center Hospital around 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, according to Las Vegas police. North, 27, is accused of punching a nurse, shoving another nurse by the face, and pushing a phlebotomist. The phlebotomist, in self-defense, allegedly struck North in the forehead with a metal tray, leading to his restraint by security.
In his statement, North mentioned that he does not recall the events at the hospital and attributed his actions to severe anxiety. He clarified that there were no alcohol or drugs involved in the incident. North expressed regret over the situation, explaining that he believed he was having a heart attack and was experiencing an extreme panic attack due to anxiety.
Following the altercation, North was arrested on three counts of battery on a protected person, which are classified as gross misdemeanors. Online records indicate that he has been released on bond, and a status hearing for a potential criminal complaint is set for March 19. The hospital spokesman refrained from commenting on the specific patient interactions but condemned violence against healthcare professionals.
"Outer Banks" is a popular Netflix series centered around teenagers searching for a lost treasure on an island. It remains to be seen how these allegations will affect North's career as more details emerge regarding the incident at the Las Vegas hospital.
