In an effort to cater to the growing demand for plant-based alternatives, Oscar Mayer, owned by Kraft Heinz, is set to launch a new range of plant-based products later this year. The plant-based options, named Oscar Mayer "NotHotDogs" and "NotSausage", will be available nationwide at a price of $5.99 and $7.99 respectively.

This expansion into plant-based offerings comes as part of a joint venture between Kraft Heinz and NotCo, a company that specializes in creating plant-based alternatives. NotCo has previously released plant-based cheese, mayo, and even a plant-based version of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.

The upcoming Oscar Mayer products will come in various flavors and variations, including bratwurst and Italian options. However, what sets these plant-based alternatives apart is the use of ingredients like bamboo fiber, mushroom, pea protein, and acerola cherry instead of traditional animal products.

It is worth noting that the plant-based meat industry has experienced a decline in consumer interest. According to research firm NIQ, plant-based meat sales saw a decrease of 9% in 2023, amounting to approximately $886 million. Despite this trend, Lucho-Lopez May, CEO of the Kraft Heinz Not Company, remains optimistic about the future of the industry. He stated, "This is an attractive space. There is an unmet need."

As the days get longer and grilling season approaches, Oscar Mayer's entry into the plant-based market is a timely move to cater to the rising demand for meat alternatives. With their upcoming "NotHotDogs" and "NotSausage" products, consumers will have more choices when it comes to enjoying delicious and sustainable plant-based options during their summer gatherings.
