In a groundbreaking partnership, Oracle and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have unveiled the launch of a new offering called Oracle Database@AWS. This innovative solution enables customers to access Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Exadata Database Service on dedicated infrastructure within the AWS cloud platform. The collaboration aims to streamline the migration and deployment of enterprise workloads to the cloud while enhancing agility, flexibility, and security.
Oracle Database@AWS offers customers a unified experience by seamlessly connecting Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) with AWS. This integration provides simplified database administration, billing, and unified customer support. Additionally, customers gain the ability to seamlessly connect their Oracle Database with applications running on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), AWS Analytics services, and even AWS's advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) services, including Amazon Bedrock.
The partnership between Larry Ellison, Oracle Chairman and CTO, and Matt Garman, AWS CEO, was revealed during the Oracle CloudWorld event on September 10. By granting direct access to Oracle Exadata Database Service on AWS, including Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), Oracle Database@AWS enables customers to bring together their enterprise data and drive breakthrough innovation. The offering ensures low latency network connection between Oracle databases and AWS applications, thus benefiting from the performance, availability, security, and cost-effectiveness of Oracle Exadata Database Service, alongside the security, agility, flexibility, and sustainability advantages provided by AWS.
Larry Ellison, Oracle Chairman and CTO, expressed, "We are seeing huge demand from customers that want to use multiple clouds. To meet this demand and give customers the choice and flexibility they want, Amazon and Oracle are seamlessly connecting AWS services with the very latest Oracle Database technology, including the Oracle Autonomous Database."
AWS CEO Matt Garman added, "This new, deeper partnership will provide Oracle Database services within AWS to allow customers to take advantage of the flexibility, reliability, and scalability of the world's most widely adopted cloud alongside enterprise software they rely on."
Oracle Database@AWS aims to accelerate customers' cloud migration and IT modernization efforts. It offers several benefits, including zero-ETL integration between Oracle Database services and AWS Analytics services, simplified database migration options with compatibility for proven migration tools like Oracle Zero Downtime Migration, and a streamlined procurement experience through AWS Marketplace. Customers can also enjoy a fully unified support experience from both AWS and Oracle, as well as seamless integration with Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) for database backups, restoration, and disaster recovery.
The availability of Oracle Database@AWS will start with a preview later this year, followed by broader availability in 2025 as it expands to new regions based on customer needs. As organizations experience Oracle Database@AWS, they will be able to leverage their existing skills and get started immediately with a fully integrated experience for deploying, managing, and utilizing Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Exadata Database Service on AWS.
Both Oracle and AWS are confident that this collaboration will greatly benefit organizations across various industries, including financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, telecoms, and utilities. Leading companies like Best Buy, Fidelity Investments, State Street, and Vodafone have already voiced their support for the partnership, highlighting the value it brings to their businesses.
The Oracle and AWS partnership represents a significant step towards simplifying cloud migrations, enhancing data management capabilities, and empowering organizations to leverage the strengths of both OCI and AWS. With this joint venture, enterprises can unlock new levels of innovation, scalability, and resilience while delivering better outcomes for their clients.
