The 2024 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, saw an incredible display of unity between the New York Rangers and New York Islanders and the city's first responders. The players made a grand entrance at the event on Sunday, with the Rangers arriving atop New York City fire trucks and vintage NYPD cars, wearing jerseys from the city's fire department and police department hockey teams. Accompanied by FDNY and NYPD hockey team members in their service uniforms, the Rangers showed their appreciation for the brave individuals who serve their community.
Not to be outdone, the Islanders arrived in police cars and fire trucks from various volunteer fire departments on Long Island, including East Meadow, Commack, and Greenlawn. They were dressed in suits as they were escorted by first responders in their uniforms, showcasing a powerful salute to Long Island's bravest.
Both teams expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to share this special moment with the first responders. Rangers forward Barclay Goodrow commended the collaboration, stating, "It was great meeting those guys, honestly. We all know what they do for our community. It was great to share that moment with them." Islanders head coach Patrick Roy echoed the sentiment, thanking the policemen and fire department for their support and acknowledging the players' excitement for the event.
