**NFL Flexes Broncos-Chargers Game to Thursday Night Football**

In an unprecedented move, the NFL has flexed the Denver Broncos' Week 16 clash with the Los Angeles Chargers to "Thursday Night Football" on December 19. This move marks the first time a game has been flexed to a Thursday slot since the rule change in 2023.

Originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon on December 22, the game will now have a primetime spotlight, featuring quarterbacks Bo Nix of the Broncos and Justin Herbert of the Chargers. This schedule shift also affects the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals matchup, moving it to Sunday, slated for 1 p.m. ET on Fox.

The decision follows a rule adopted by NFL owners which allows games to be flexed into a Thursday slot between Weeks 13 and 17, provided a four-week notice is given. This adjustment means the Broncos will now feature in two primetime games in December, starting with a "Monday Night Football" game against the Browns in Week 13.

For the Denver Broncos, the rescheduling brings an added benefit of extended rest before their pivotal Week 17 road game against the Bengals. Nix, who recently earned the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award, will have another opportunity to shine on a national stage. Since a slow start marked by only one touchdown and four interceptions in his first four games, Nix has rebounded impressively with 13 touchdowns and just two interceptions. His performance has solidified him as a strong contender in the Rookie of the Year race.

The Chargers, under first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh, have been in impressive form, winning five of their last six games. Their Week 6 victory over the Broncos was the kickstarter for this successful stint. Flexed into primetime for the second time this season, the Chargers are set for four primetime games within six weeks, including crucial matches against the Ravens and the Chiefs.

With the Chargers' Week 11 game against the Bengals also moved to a prime slot and an exciting finish that saw Herbert execute his 15th career game-winning drive, the team is proving to be a significant draw for audiences. As the two former Oregon quarterbacks face off for the third time, following a dramatic college encounter in 2019 and their recent NFL clash in Week 6, fans can expect an exciting game on December 19.

The shift has strategic implications for the Browns too, given the dominance of home teams in AFC North Thursday night games. While the Bengals remain in playoff contention, the moved game signifies a strategic choice favoring higher viewing appeal. The Browns, meanwhile, are also bracing for another possible flex scenario as they are currently scheduled to host Miami in Week 17.
