### NFL Issues Security Alert Amid Rising Athlete Home Burglaries
The NFL has heightened security protocols for its teams and the players' union following recent break-ins targeting the residences of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. These incidents have raised concerns within the league, prompting an urgent memo distributed on Thursday.
According to a statement obtained by The Associated Press and various media sources, a rising trend of burglaries has been observed involving the homes of professional athletes across different sports. The NFL, alongside other professional sports leagues, received comprehensive briefings from the FBI last Friday. Reports indicated that organized and adept groups are orchestrating these burglaries, strategically planning their heists on days when athletes have scheduled games.
Law enforcement officials have disclosed that these groups conduct thorough surveillance of their targets. Their methods include simulating home deliveries and masquerading as neighborhood joggers or grounds maintenance workers. These criminals typically gain entry via side doors, balconies, or even second-floor windows, with secluded homes and master bedrooms being particularly vulnerable.
Players have been advised to take several precautionary measures to safeguard their homes. One significant recommendation is to refrain from posting real-time updates or locations on social media, and to avoid displaying expensive items online. The homes of Mahomes and Kelce, in particular, were targeted within a short span last month. Kelce's home was broken into just before the Kansas City Chiefs' 26-13 victory over the New Orleans Saints on October 7, a game observed by his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, from the stands. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during these incidents.
The NFL's recent security alert underscores the urgent need for athletes to heighten their awareness and implement effective home security strategies to mitigate the risks of such targeted burglaries.
