### Mets Refresh Roster: Ronny Mauricio Called Up, Mark Vientos Hits IL
The New York Mets made a series of roster moves today, including the promotion of infielder Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A. In addition, left-handed pitcher Brandon Waddell was recalled, right-hander Max Kranick was sent down to Syracuse, and third baseman/designated hitter Mark Vientos was placed on the ten-day Injured List.
Mauricio has been nothing short of remarkable in Triple-A this season, boasting an impressive .515/.564/.818 slash line with three home runs, eight RBIs, and ten runs scored over nine games. Although the Mets initially aimed to give him additional development time, his outstanding performance evidently accelerated his ascension to the majors. Mauricio will don the number 10 jersey for the Mets.
Mark Vientos suffered a hamstring injury while sprinting out of the box during the tenth inning of the Mets' recent triumph over the Dodgers. His injury forced him to be piggybacked onto the field for the post-game celebration. Despite his breakout season in 2024, Vientos has struggled to find his rhythm this year, batting .230/.298/.380 with six home runs. With Brett Baty performing well defensively at third base, Vientos has been taking more at-bats as a designated hitter recently.
Max Kranick's transfer to Triple-A Syracuse appears to be a strategic move as the Mets look to bolster their bullpen with fresh arms during a busy game stretch. Kranick has put up solid numbers this season, recording a 3.51 ERA and an impressive 0.8 walks per nine innings.
Brandon Waddell returns to the majors for the third time this season. Previously, Waddell pitched multiple innings in relief, delivering a strong performance on April 30th with four and a third innings behind opener Huascar Brazobán. However, his appearance on May 28th was less successful, as he gave up four runs on seven hits over five innings. His latest recall is technically tied to Vientos's injury, allowing him to bypass the standard ten-day waiting period before rejoining the major league roster.
These roster changes come as the Mets seek to maintain momentum and adapt to injuries through the demanding stretch of games ahead.
