**Daniel Jones Released by New York Giants After Six Seasons**

In a significant move, the New York Giants have parted ways with quarterback Daniel Jones following his benching earlier in the week. This decision brings an official end to Jones’s tenure with the team after six seasons.

Reports indicate that the cracks in the relationship between Jones and head coach Brian Daboll were evident long before his benching. According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, multiple players observed a noticeable shift in the dynamic between Jones and Daboll during the 2024 season, with one player describing their interactions as "weird."

The Giants’ pursuit of top quarterbacks during the past offseason, highlighted on HBO's "Hard Knocks: Offseason," added pressure on the 27-year-old Jones, sources close to the situation revealed.

In Daboll's first year as head coach in 2022, Jones delivered one of his best performances, leading New York to the playoffs and securing a victory against the Minnesota Vikings in the wild-card round. As a result, Jones was rewarded with a four-year, $160 million contract extension in March 2023. However, his fortunes took a turn when he suffered a season-ending torn ACL in a game against the Las Vegas Raiders in November 2023.

Armed with the sixth pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Giants explored their options among the emerging quarterbacks, aware of the emotional impact on Jones. The aftermath of his injury and the pressure to prove himself appeared to affect Jones’s performance, leading to a significant drop in his quarterback rating and yards per attempt.

Despite moments of promise, Jones frequently missed throws and open receivers, including a notable misfire on a flea-flicker play during a Week 10 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Daboll, however, had positive words for his former quarterback upon his release, expressing respect and admiration for Jones’s professionalism and character. “We had a really good talk, Daniel and I," Daboll said. "Got a lot of respect for him...he's been nothing but a pro since I've been here with him. He's a great young man."

The Daniel Jones era in New York has concluded, marking the end of a chapter filled with highs and lows. The Giants now look forward to a new direction while Jones faces the next step in his NFL journey.
