In a shocking revelation during a recent Criminal Justice Committee meeting, it was announced that the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) headquarters has been overrun by rats that are getting high on marijuana from the evidence room. This alarming situation adds to the mounting issues faced by the decrepit building, including a rampant mold and cockroach problem.

Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick candidly addressed city council members, highlighting the unacceptable conditions in which NOPD employees are forced to work. Defective elevators, out-of-order bathrooms, and an infestation of cockroaches have plagued the headquarters. "When we say we value our employees, you can't say that, and at the same time, allow people to work in conditions that are not acceptable," remarked Kirkpatrick.

Adding to the bizarre state of affairs, Kirkpatrick revealed that the rats have taken over the structure, and are even consuming drugs stored in the evidence room. "The rats are eating our marijuana. They're all high," Kirkpatrick asserted. While she refrained from making any direct link, the superintendent couldn't help but allude to the possibility of revenge from the rats for the history of animal testing they have been subjected to.

While rats may be causing havoc at the NOPD headquarters, they also have a softer and more endearing side. As pets, rats are known for being affectionate, intelligent, and amenable to training. They have the ability to learn their names, come when called, and even perform tricks. However, their lifespan is relatively short, ranging from two to four years.

In terms of caring for pet rats, it is important to provide them with proper veterinary care and a varied diet consisting of rat-specific pellets, as well as occasional fruits, vegetables, and lean protein. Additionally, keeping rats away from drugs, including marijuana, is crucial to their wellbeing.

As the NOPD grapples with the dual challenges of a rat infestation and the corresponding drug consumption, urgent measures need to be taken to address the deteriorating conditions of their headquarters. City officials must prioritize the safety and well-being of the police force while ensuring a clean and functional work environment.

Ultimately, the situation at the NOPD headquarters serves as a reminder that even the most unusual of circumstances can shed light on the importance of maintaining a conducive workplace for law enforcement officers.
