After an eventful three days, the 2024 NFL Draft has come to a close with the New England Patriots making significant strides in their rebuilding process. Headlining their draft class is Drake Maye, the third overall pick and the team's future franchise quarterback. Alongside Maye, the Patriots also added another quarterback, Joe Milton, in the sixth round, completely transforming their quarterback room.

While Maye brings a combination of velocity and range, Milton's standout attribute is his impressive arm talent. Despite his decision-making and accuracy not being at the NFL level, his cannon-like throwing arm has earned him the nickname "Bazooka Joe." The addition of Milton, acquired through a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars, adds depth and firepower to the Patriots' quarterback position.

This quarterback double-dip strategy is a rarity for the Patriots, with the last occurrence happening back in 1983. The organization has historically focused on picking multiple players at other positions. However, this year, they have prioritized bolstering their offense, with seven out of their eight total draft picks dedicated to offensive positions.

General Manager Jerod Mayo emphasized the team's goal of improving their offense, stating that in order to win games in the league, a productive offense is paramount. The Patriots addressed this need by selecting two quarterbacks, two wide receivers, two offensive linemen, and one tight end. The only exception to their offensive-focused draft was cornerback Marcellas Dial, picked in the sixth round.

In addition to the draft picks, the Patriots have also been active in the post-draft period, signing rookie free agents to further enhance their roster for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, the status of Cole Strange, the Patriots' starting left guard, remains uncertain as he recovers from a knee injury. The team will need to make roster decisions and determine the depth along their interior offensive line.

As the dust settles from the draft, the Patriots' roster construction is far from over. There is still room for roster moves, such as releases and potential trades, as the team continues to build their 2024 squad. The Patriots are committed to their rebuilding process and have shown a willingness to make bold moves in order to reshape their team into a strong contender.

The 2024 NFL Draft has laid the foundation for the Patriots' future, with the additions of Maye and Milton bringing a new level of potential and excitement to the quarterback position. With their revamped offense and a determined mindset, the Patriots aim to rebound from a disappointing previous season and compete for success in the upcoming campaign.
