In a move that has sparked excitement among Washington Nationals fans, the team is calling up outfielder Dylan Crews from Triple-A Rochester for his Major League debut on Monday against the Yankees at Nationals Park, according to a source. The 22-year-old Crews, who was selected by the Nationals as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 Draft out of LSU, is regarded as the team's top prospect and ranks third overall according to MLB Pipeline.

Crews has been showcasing his skills throughout his first full professional season, consistently contributing to his team's success. With a slash line of .272/.343/.446, he has recorded 21 doubles, six triples, 13 home runs, 60 runs, and 68 RBIs across 99 games for Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Rochester. Additionally, Crews has demonstrated his speed on the basepaths, stealing 25 bases, while also displaying a keen eye for the strike zone with 35 walks.

His hot performance at the plate in August, including four homers and 14 RBIs with a slugging percentage of .542, further solidified his call-up to the big leagues. Crews had the opportunity to participate in Major League Spring Training with the Nationals, which allowed him to develop chemistry with his future teammates.

Crews will be joining a promising young outfield alongside James Wood in left field and the emerging Gold Glove contender Jacob Young in center field. Considering Crews' versatility, having played both center field and right field in the minors, he is expected to slot into the right field position for the Nationals.

The significance of Crews' debut lies not only in his individual achievements but also in the larger narrative of the Nationals' future. He represents the latest prospect to make his Major League debut this season, following in the footsteps of talented players like Trey Lipscomb, Nasim Nuñez, Mitchell Parker, DJ Herz, James Wood, Andrés Chaparro, and Orlando Ribalta.

Drafted with the second overall pick, Crews holds the distinction of being the highest draft pick for the Nationals since Bryce Harper in 2010. The Nationals were so keen on securing his talents that they signed him to a $9 million signing bonus, surpassing the pick value. This marked the second-highest signing bonus in MLB Draft history at the time.

Before his professional career, Crews made a significant impact in college baseball, helping lead LSU to its seventh national championship in 2023. In the same year, he was honored with the prestigious Golden Spikes Award, recognizing him as the top amateur baseball player in the United States.

Fans eagerly anticipate Crews' debut, as it marks an exciting new chapter for the Nationals and provides an opportunity for the young outfielder to gain invaluable experience, adjust to Major League pitching, and forge strong bonds with his new teammates. The Nationals envision Crews as a central figure in their future success and look forward to watching him develop at the highest level of the game.
