and its president Solomon Engel. Diaz claims that Fanmio owes him a staggering $9 million for his appearance in a recent boxing match against Jorge Masvidal. The lawsuit was filed in the Southern District of Florida, just eight days after Diaz's victory in the highly anticipated bout.
According to the lawsuit, Fanmio agreed to pay Diaz a total of $10 million for the fight, with $1 million to be paid upfront and the remaining $9 million immediately following the event. However, Diaz has yet to receive the second payment, prompting him to take legal action against the promotion company.
In response to the lawsuit, Solomon Engel, president of Fanmio, denied any wrongdoing and referred to the lawsuit as frivolous. Engel claimed that Diaz has already been paid a seven-figure sum for his participation in the match, contradicting the fighter's allegations. Engel expressed confidence in resolving the dispute through the appropriate legal process and dismissed Diaz's claims as defamatory.
Diaz's legal representatives stated that they had expressed concerns regarding Fanmio's ability to fulfill the contractual obligations. They were reassured multiple times, both in writing and in verbal communication, that the $9 million owed to Diaz was securely held in an independent account and ready for transfer. However, the suit alleges that Engel has since disclosed the event's financial struggles, particularly in terms of pay-per-view revenues, making it impossible to fulfill the payment.
The lawsuit further claims that Engel made desperate calls to Diaz's representatives following the event, expressing his anticipated financial losses and even mentioning the possibility of declaring bankruptcy to avoid paying Diaz what was owed. These alleged statements by Engel further strained the already contentious situation.
It is important to note that Jorge Masvidal and his team are not involved in the lawsuit and have refrained from commenting on the issue.
Fanmio, based in South Florida, is a promotional company known for its involvement in several high-profile events, including the recent exhibition boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul in 2021, as well as a slap fighting card presented alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2022.
As the legal battle unfolds in the Southern District of Florida, fans and industry insiders will be eager to see how this lawsuit pans out and if Nate Diaz will ultimately receive the $9 million he claims is owed to him by Fanmio.
