Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) encountered an unusual situation on Wednesday when a mouse emerged from a passenger's in-flight meal, leading to an emergency landing of one of its flights. The incident occurred on a flight from Oslo, Norway, to Malaga, Spain, resulting in the aircraft being diverted to Copenhagen, Denmark. Following company protocols due to the safety risk posed by the unexpected furry passenger, SAS spokesperson Oystein Schmidt confirmed the emergency landing.
Passengers onboard the flight were transferred to another aircraft to continue their journey to Malaga after the mouse sighting. This incident, according to airline representative Mr Schmidt, is an extremely rare occurrence, highlighting the strict measures in place to prevent rodents on flights, minimizing risks such as damage to electrical wiring. The swift response to divert the flight underscores the airline's commitment to passenger safety and adherence to aviation regulations.
A firsthand witness, Jarle Borrestad, recounted the incident, noting that the mouse emerged from a meal box belonging to a fellow passenger seated beside him. Despite the unexpected turn of events, Borrestad described the atmosphere among passengers as calm, with no signs of panic. Taking precautions, Borrestad humorously shared how he protected himself by wearing socks over his trousers to prevent the mouse from climbing up his legs. The temporary delay caused by the emergency landing only added a few extra hours to the passengers' journey, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the flight.
