The Los Angeles Angels and their superstar outfielder, Mike Trout, received troubling news on Tuesday as it was announced that Trout will undergo surgery for a torn meniscus in his left knee. While the surgery is not expected to be season-ending, the Angels have not provided a specific timetable for his return.
At just 32 years old, Trout was off to a strong start in the 2022 season, boasting an impressive .220/.325/.541 line and hitting 10 home runs, which tied him with Gunnar Henderson for the most in the Majors. Additionally, Trout has been more active on the bases this year, tallying six stolen bases, matching his total from the previous four seasons combined.
Unfortunately, injuries have plagued Trout and the Angels in recent years. Last season, Trout only managed to play in 82 games due to a fractured wrist, while in 2021, he appeared in just 36 games due to a right calf strain. Although Trout surpassed the 100-game mark in 2022, he has not played over 130 games since 2019.
Adding to the disappointing news, the Angels are currently struggling with an 11-18 record and find themselves in fourth place in the competitive AL West, just edging out the struggling Houston Astros who sit at 9-19.
Trout's absence from the lineup will undoubtedly be felt by the Angels, as his impact both offensively and defensively is crucial to the team's success. However, the Angels will hope for a successful surgery and a swift recovery for their star player, as they look to turn their season around and climb up the standings in the AL West.
